Reviews

The cast were uniformly in top voice. A special kudo for James Salazar, who had recovered from illness the week before and who triumphed in the role of the Duke both Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. It's no wonder that his female prey were so easily seduced by his glorious tenor and lovemaking appeal. His aria, 'Questa o quella' (this girl or that one), is one of the favorite showpieces for an Italian tenor, requiring an assured voice around the high B flat.

Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci

James Salazar, as the lead clown Canio, sounds better than ever, singing the wide-ranging and deeply emotional “greatest hit” of Vesti la giubba so well that he evokes early memories of great opera recordings from a bygone era.
